How I Became Santa

I am sure that there are lots of reasons that each of us have decided to portray the most famous persona ever, “SANTA.”

I had the opportunity to share “The reason I became Santa” with several Santas and their wives recently.  I told this story during dinner at the Olive Garden, following the Santa Claus Academy in Atlanta, Ga.

It takes place in 1991 in a small town in West Tennessee.  Collierville, Tn., to be exact.

Forty years ago a man who had a Dream was taken from this world by an assassins bullet as he stood on a balcony in Memphis Tennessee.  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a man of
peace, and Love.  His Dream was for the children and their futures.

Dr. King knew that obtaining basic human and civil rights for black America was only the first step on a long, elusive, dangerous road to that Dream.
